## The rebrand, explained

Spellbook makes AI software that helps lawyers draft and review contracts. Its CEO, Scott Stevenson, wrote on the company blog: "Today marks a new chapter in Spellbook’s story". The post is about a new brand identity. Spellbook said it had grown from a single-feature tool to a suite of tools.

The old logo was a gem in a purple-to-blue gradient with white facet lines, next to a black serif wordmark. The new logo keeps a gem. The gem now has four flat colours: red-orange, amber, blue and green. The wordmark is now a heavy sans serif. Spellbook's logo file uses #FF4716, #F8B400, #029CFF and #006837 for the gem, and white letters for dark backgrounds.

Focus Lab wrote in its case study: "As Spellbook grew, the identity surrounding it had become a ceiling." Focus Lab said it kept and refined the gem because it honoured what the mark had always represented. The case study names the brand concept "Questing Together", the wordmark typeface Ghost by Sharp Type and a primary typeface, Arizona Mix by Dianmo. Focus Lab published it in April 2026, so the typefaces may describe a later brand.

Spellbook also added a set of markup symbols. Stevenson wrote: "Inspired by editorial markup language of the past, we’ve introduced a new set of symbols to represent Spellbook’s features." Focus Lab describes them as curls, brackets and carets. Walker told Brandfetch that the Review symbol mirrors the "delete" mark and the Draft symbol mirrors the "insert" mark.

Focus Lab says it developed the brand while Walker built the website interface in parallel. Walker's own LinkedIn post credits her team for web design, development and creative direction. Focus Lab says she later joined Spellbook full-time as creative director. No source we read names anyone at Focus Lab, and nobody has published the fee. Focus Lab calls the old identity "functional and practical". Walker told Brandfetch it was "quickly thrown together as needed".

The launch day is not clear. The blog post shows a last-updated date of 14 November 2024. Walker posted about the launch on LinkedIn on 25 November 2024 (UTC). That is the latest date we can prove, not necessarily the first. The blog post says 2,700 customers in 50 countries. Stevenson's piece on Artificial Lawyer, a legal technology site, says 2,600 customers in more than 50 countries on 4 December 2024.

We found no named critic's reaction to the new logo. The next dated event we read is a Spellbook blog post, last updated on 9 October 2025. It announced a $50 million Series B led by Keith Rabois at Khosla Ventures. It says Spellbook had grown to 4,000 law firms and in-house legal teams in 80 countries.

In short: Spellbook recoloured its gem, changed its wordmark and added markup symbols.
