Air New Zealand
In juli 2012 ging Air New Zealand op zwart.

"Our iconic symbol, the Koru, will remain but it will be set within our national colour rather than the blue and green tones on our tails today," zei hij. De maatschappij gebruikte zwart al "ahead of the All Blacks' campaign last year."
De letters werden getekend door Sowersby van Klim Type Foundry, samen met het bureau Designworks, op basis van een briefing voor "a wordmark that reflects an innovative, modern company but projects our history, credibility and with a timeless elegance." Hij leverde "about 45 concepts" in. De gekozen cursieve kapitalen houden de grote A en de positie van de koru vast, "retaining the familiar side-on jet profile." Over de koru zelf: "The koru was — and still is — sacrosanct. It was not to change."
Volgens het persbericht zouden de nieuwe letters "all our signage and communications channels by the end of the year" bereiken, met de zwarte staarten vanaf 2013 op nieuwe toestellen.
Klanten waren minder zeker. Corporate Eye meldde dat "consumers aren't happy" en dat ze "the old blue and green color palette that reminded them of the ocean" terugwilden, al vond het de nieuwe letter "an improvement." De voorpagina van de NZ Herald kopte "Black future for Air New Zealand," en AirportSpotting schreef: "Gone are the blues."
